Sir Richard Glynasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many youths have absconded from the open borstal at Guys Marsh, near Shaftesbury, in the 12 months to the last convenient date; how many have absconded in the last 10 days; and what 237W steps he is taking to protect householders in North Dorset from the damage and interference caused by these absconders while trying to prolong their freedom.
§ Miss BaconDuring the 12 months from 1st: July, 1964, to 30th June, 1965, 35 boys, absconded from Guys Marsh borstal. Eight have absconded in the last 10 days. We try so far as possible, by careful selection and supervision and by other means, to keep down abscondings from open borstals. Guys Marsh does not receive boys with records of severe violence or sexual offences. The police are informed immediately an escape is known to have taken place.
