Mr. Graham Cookeasked the Minister of Transport, as the A.30 London to Basingstoke and A.33 Basingstoke to Southampton have now been designated as European road E.1, and, in view of the facts that these roads are narrow and congested, and run through towns, when they are to be replaced by motorways of European standard.
§ Mr. Tom FraserA.30 and A.33 have formed part of the International Route since 1950. A.30 will be replaced by the London-Basingstoke Motorway, which it is proposed to complete by the early 1970's. A.33 is to be progressively improved by sections of new road or by bringing the existing road up to dual-carriageway standard; the first of several schemes will start shortly.
