§ 55. Mr. Dudley Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what extra security precautions were ordered at Wandsworth Prison, following rumours and reports that a jail break might take place there, and which, in fact, did occur on 8th July.

SoskiceAll rumours and reports that a jail break might take place at Wandsworth or other prisons were fully and immediately investigated and such precautions as seemed appropriate were taken; it would not be in the public interest to disclose details. Throughout there has been close and immediate co-operation between the police and officers of the prison service.
