§ 45. Mr. Tilneyasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the recently initialled agreement granting mutual preferences between the 98W European Economic Community and Nigeria; what effect this is likely to have on British exports; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RedheadI am aware that agreement has been reached in principle between the Common Market Commission and the Nigerian Government. Any agreement would have to be ratified by the member Governments of E.E.C. I am unable to estimate the effects of the proposed agreement on British exports. Her Majesty's Government have made their views clear to the Nigerian Government.
