Fees at the School were introduced in 1957 and the final column in the Table shows that without their assistance (or a reduction of the expenditure on other benefits) Greenwich Hospital expenditure would have increasingly exceeded receipts. It is estimated that fees in 1964–65 will have provided for about one-sixth of the total estimated expenditure on the Royal Hospital School and other Greenwich Hospital benefits.
