§ Sir C. Osborneasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations if he will give an assurance that British troops will never be used under any circumstances to fight the white people of Rhodesia; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. BottomleyThe aim of the British Government is to seek a peaceful and lasting solution of the Rhodesian problem through negotiation, and any question of the use of British troops is thus hypothetical. I have no statement to make on this matter beyond what I said to the House in the debate on Commonwealth and Colonial Affairs on 1st June.
