Mr. Ted Fletcherasked the First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Economic Affairs whether he will take steps to ensure that petrol companies discontinue the practice of providing free insurance, free holidays, free groceries and free Bingo games for customers, and instead reduce the price of petrol.
§ Mr. George BrownThe supply of petrol for retail sales has been under investigation by the Monopolies Commission and I understand that the Commission's report will be published very shortly. In the circumstances, I do not think reference of the matter to the National Board for Prices and Incomes at this stage would be helpful.
