The Ministry's information relates to pensioned disablements and not to pensioners blinded for other reasons, for example, because of a road accident. About 950 people are receiving war disablement pensions which were awarded for total blindness. About 14,500 people are also receiving war pensions for loss of an eye or disease of the eye, where this is the main cause of their disablement, but it is not known how many of these pensioners are blind. No similar figures are kept for industrial disablement pensioners.
