§ Mr. Ormeasked the Minister of Power what arrangements for consultation he proposes in his consideration of a coordinated fuel policy.
§ Mr. Frederick LeeAs I informed the House on 1st December, 1964, I am undertaking a general review of fuel policy and have already initiated discussions with the chairmen of the nationalised fuel industries. It is my intention also to undertake consultation on a wider basis. To assist in this, I am setting up an Energy Advisory Council with terms of reference
To consider and advise the Minister of Power about the energy situation and outlook and the plans and policies of the fuel and power industries in relation to national objectives for economic growth".The members of the Council, which will meet under my chairmanship, are:
- The Chairman of the National Coal Board (Lord Robens).
- The Chairman of the Electricity Council (Sir Ronald Edwards, K.B.E.).
- The Chairman of the Gas Council (Sir Henry Jones, K.B.E.).
- Mr. J. E. H. Davies, M.B.E. (Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Shell-Mex and B.P.).
- Mr. S. Ford, M.B.E. (President, National Union of Mineworkers).
- Mr. F. Hayday, O.B.E. (National Industrial Officer, National Union of General and Muncipal Workers).
- Mr. H. R. Nicholas, O.B.E. (General Secreary, Transport and General Workers Union).
- Sir Julian Pode, J.P. (Chairman, Steel Company of Wales).
- Mr. W. M. Tallon (National Executive Officer, Amalgamated Engineering Union).
- Mr. R. Thomas (Managing Director, Wm. Beardmore and Co. Ltd.).
- Sir Owen Wansborough-Jones, K.B.E., C.B. (Technical Director, Allbright and Wilson. Ltd.).
In addition there will be official representatives from the Department of 137W Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Technology and my Department.
I intend to convene a first meeting of the Council soon.
