HC Deb 17 February 1965 vol 706 cc227-8W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Minister of Labour if he will give details of the basis of compensation being offered to those made redundant as a result of recent changes in the aircraft industry; and what is his policy towards such compensation.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

I have been asked to reply.

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour will be introducing general legislation on severance pay in due course. Severance pay for workers declared redundant in the period before the statu- tory scheme comes into operation must be a matter for negotiation between the companies and trade unions concerned.
