§ 104. Mr. Carmichaelasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will state the approximate number of blankets, surplus to the requirements of the Services, which were disposed of by auction in each of the last three years; and if he will give an estimate of the numbers likely to be disposed of in the current year.
§ Mr. ReynoldsApproximately 148,000, 131,000 and 44,000 in 1962, 1963 and 1964 respectively. In addition, approximately 60, 71 and 16 tons of scrap pieces of blanket were sold by auction in these years.
Based on past figures and trends, I estimate that the figures in 1965 will be about 80-100,000 blankets and 30–50 tons of scrap pieces.
