HC Deb 08 February 1965 vol 706 c31W
Mr. Marten

asked the Minister of Aviation what is the present sum on current account and capital account, respectively, owed to the Government by the British Overseas Airways Corporation; how much he intends to write off; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

The borrowing of the Corporation by way of British Overseas Airways Stock and Exchequer advances amount at present to approximately £176 million. Part of this sum finances the accumulated deficit of the Corporation which, at 31st March, 1964, amounted to approximately £87.2 million.

I hope to make a statement on the financial reconstruction of the Corporation before the end of March.
