98. Mrs. Butlerasked the Postmaster. General if he will introduce legislation to prevent firms sending unsolicited pornographic material through the post, particulars of which have been sent to the Secretary of State for the Home Department by the hon. Member for Wood Green.
§ Mr. Joseph SlaterAs I explained to my hon. Friend in reply to her Question on 19th January, it is already an offence under the Post Office Act, 1953, to send indecent or obscene matter through the post. I do not think further legislation328W would help matters; and I should not therefore propose to introduce it. The material to which my hon. Friend has drawn attention is the subject of a police inquiry.
