HC Deb 04 February 1965 vol 705 c328W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Postmaster-General what plans he now has for suppressing pirate radio stations; and what are his reasons for such action.

Mr. Benn

This country has now signed the Council of Europe Agreement to which I referred in my reply of 17th November to the hon. Member, and legislation to implement it will be introduced as soon as practicable. The principal reason for taking action against the pirate stations is that they cause intolerable interference to the operation of broadcasting services in other countries and of certain maritime radio communication services in this country and abroad.
