HC Deb 04 February 1965 vol 705 c325W
Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether the Government have reached a decision on the proposals for establishing an International Agency for Research on Cancer.

Mr. Crosland

Her Majesty's Government, and the Governments of France, Federal Germany, Italy and the United States of America, have agreed jointly to sponsor, at the next meeting of the World Health Assembly, a resolution and statute intended to establish an International Agency for Research on Cancer.

Her Majesty's Government has agreed to participate in the work of the Agency, subject to a reservation that the Statute of the Agency, when adopted, shall not differ substantially from the draft now under discussion.

The Governments named have agreed that the Netherlands Government shall be invited to take part in further preparatory discussions.
