HC Deb 04 February 1965 vol 705 cc312-3W
Sir J. Eden

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information is required under his regulations before the issue of a licence to carry a firearm is authorised.

Sir F. Soskice:

Under the Firearms Rules, 1937, applicants for firearm certificates are required to give their name address, date of birth (if under 21) and nationality; the date and place of issue of any previous firearm certificate; details of firearms and ammunition already in their possession; and details of the firearms and ammunition they wish to purchase or acquire and their reasons for requiring them. After such further inquiries as he may consider necessary, the issue of a firearm certificate is at the discretion of the chief officer of police, subject to appeal to Quarter Sessions.
