§ 73. Mr. G. Campbellasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will remove the 15 per cent. import surcharge upon equipment and spare parts for winter sports chair-lift installations in Scotland, in view of the additional £1,850 which has recently been charged to the Cairngorms Winter Sports Development Board, a non-profit-making body whose members are unpaid, and because most of this equipment, needed for this special purpose, cannot be obtained in this country.
§ Mr. MacDermotRelief from this charge could only be given under the provision in the Finance (No. 2) Act, 1964, which relates to articles to be used non-commercially for the promotion of sport. I understand that my right hon. Friend, the President of the Board of Trade, who administers the provision, did not consider that the particular importation by the Cairngorms Winter Sports Development Board qualified for relief.
§ 75. Mr. Danceasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the 15 per cent. surcharge is levied on aircraft purchased by the Government from foreign countries.
§ Mr. MacDermotYes, except in the case of aircraft exceeding 18,000 lb. total weight, which are generally exempted from the charge.
