HC Deb 01 February 1965 vol 705 cc212-3W
75. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works whether negotiations have been completed with the firm which rebuilt the Downing Street site; and what was the final figure agreed to.

Mr. C. Pannell

Agreement has now been reached between the Ministry and Messrs. John Mowlem & Company Limited on the fee payable to the company as main contractor for the Downing Street and Treasury reconstruction scheme. The company has accepted the Ministry's offer of a total fee of £25,000. This amount comprises the quoted fee of £15,000, which was based on the scope of work as originally defined, and £10,000 calculated on apro-rata basis for the increased scope of work carried out. No ex-gratia allowance has been made.

The completed buildings are now structurally sound and equipped to present-day standards, and their historical character has been preserved and enhanced. The quality of the work done is very good.
