§ Mr. Ennalsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what progress has been made with the establishment of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research; and whether Her Majesty's Government will now make a payment to the Institute.
§ Mr. George ThomsonThe United Nations Institute for Training and Research was formally established on 24th March and is expected to begin operations early next year. Her Majesty's482W Government are satisfied that the conditions on which the previous Government pledged a contribution to the Institute of $500,000 for the initial five or six-year period have been met. They have therefore decided to pay to the Institute a sum of $100,000 or its sterling equivalent as a first instalment of the United Kingdom contribution, payment of which has been requested by the Executive Director of the Institute. The House will in due course be asked to vote that amount by means of a Supplementary Estimate. In the meantime an advance will be obtained from the Civil Contingencies Fund.
