HC Deb 21 December 1965 vol 722 c432W
Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when official representations were first received by his Department on the need for a fishermen's pier at Kyleakin.

Mr. Ross

Application for general approval to construct a pier at Kyleakin was first made by Inverness County Council in June, 1960, and approval in principle was given to the Council in July, 1960, subject to their obtaining the necessary powers. Formal application for statutory authority to construct the works was made by the Council to the Secretary of State in October, 1961.

Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when work will proceed with the construction of the fishermen's pier at Kyleakin.

Mr. Ross

I gave formal authority to Inverness County Council in November for the construction of this pier and I also offered the Council 75 per cent. grant towards the cost of the work. The County Council still has some formalities to complete and I understand it does not expect to be able to start work before the spring of next year.
