HC Deb 21 December 1965 vol 722 cc395-6W
50. Sir Knox Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations whether he will make a statement on the present position in Malayasia in relation to Indonesia in so far as the defence responsibilities assumed by the United Kingdom are concerned.

Mr. Bottomley

Our defence commitment to Malaysia stems from the 1957 Defence Agreement with Malaya which was extended to Malaysia by the Malaysia Agreement of 1963.

We have made it clear to the Malaysian Government that in accordance with the Agreement we shall continue to respond to their request for assistance in the defence of Malaysia against the attacks and threats of attacks which continue to be made by Indonesia as part of their policy of confrontation.
