§ Mr. Buchanan-Smithasked the President of the Board of Trade what study he has made of the survey carried out by the Scottish Council, Development and Industry, a copy of which has been sent to him, into the Scottish castings industry; and if he will take steps to encourage the local production of castings to meet the needs of new industries.
§ Mr. DarlingI am aware that this survey indicates that just under half the total consumption of castings in Scotland is from Scottish production. The decision whether or not to expand in Scotland is, of course, primarily a matter for the commercial judgment of the firms concerned. We are always glad to welcome new projects or expansions in development districts and these would be eligible for consideration for assistance under the Local Employment Acts.
