HC Deb 09 December 1965 vol 722 cc134-5W
36. Mr. Charles R. Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many primary schools built prior to 1866 are currently in use within the area of the Lancashire County Council Education Authority; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Denis Howell

Information in this form is not available. In 1962 about 415 maintained primary schools in Lancashire were using teaching accommodation dating from before 1875. A substantial number of these have since been improved or extended. My right hon. Friend is anxious to improve the quality of primary school accommodation as quickly as possible. But priority must continua to be given to the provision of extra places needed for the rising school population and to match the housing drive.
