Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Minister of Transport what are the accident and casualty rates expressed in vehicle-miles on motorways, as distinct from roads built to motorway standards, and on all-purpose main roads, respectively, for the latest period available.

Accident and casualty rates for all motorways are not readily available. The table below gives the figures for M.1 and for all rural trunk and Class 1 roads in Great Britain, in 1964.
