HC Deb 08 December 1965 vol 722 c102W
Mr. Cooper

asked the Postmaster-General if he will give the reason for the delay in repaying the postal draft for £35 to Mr. Oliver Bandy of 46 Braemore Road, Seven Kings, Ilford; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Benn

Mr. Bandy asked for repayment of an overseas money order (not a postal draft) for £35 which he sent to his daughter in the U.S.A.

The Post Office does not repay uncashed overseas money orders sent abroad until confirmation is received from the Overseas Administration that the order has not been paid. As soon as Mr. Bandy asked for repayment, we wrote to the U.S. Post Office on 13th August 1965 but despite reminders they did not reply until 1st December. A repayment money order was sent immediately to Mr. Bandy.
