§ Mr. Hoosonasked the Minister of Power, in view of the public preference for central heating and the need to reduce the increase in conventional space heating, if he will take steps to introduce schemes to effect heat recovery and if he will implement schemes of district heating.
§ Mr. John MorrisI cannot altogether accept the hon. Member's premises. A number of district heating schemes, most of which supply heat from central boiler plant are already in operation. Suppliers, including the National Coal Board, are encouraging group heating schemes in a number of areas. Schemes which use heat recovery from power stations present many difficult problems due to the very different requirements of electricity generation and district heating. My right hon. Friend the Minister of Public Building and Works has set up a Study Group to consider one such scheme.
