§ Mr. G. Johnson Smithasked the Minister of Health, in view of concern about the effectiveness of pertussis vaccines, what steps he has taken, or proposes to take, to ensure that all whooping cough vaccines in current use are effective against prevalent strains or pertussis in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. LoughlinI am aware of recent reports that some whooping cough vaccines at present in use may not be fully effective against some of the prevalent types of whooping cough organism. This446W matter is being pursued in co-operation with the Medical Research Council with a view to ensuring that the vaccines issued shall be fully effective against all types of whooping cough organism likely to be encountered.
