HL Deb 05 August 1965 vol 269 cc521-2WA
LORD MANCROFT

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether their decision announced on July 28 to close on October 4 the Ryde-Cowes and Shanklin-Ventnor lines in the Isle of Wight may be postponed for sufficient time for the matter to be raised in Parliament in view of the importance of these routes to the Island's economy.

LORD LINDGREN

No. The actual date of the closures is a matter entirely for the Railways Board, who are free to proceed with them as soon as the conditions of the consents given by my right honourable friend the Minister of Transport have been complied with.

House adjourned at four minutes past nine o'clock for the Summer Recess.
