HC Deb 04 August 1965 vol 717 c330W
Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state how many of the new housing starts authorised by his Department this year are of the multi-storey type; what percentage this figure represents of the total; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ross

Tenders for 5,433 houses in multi-storey blocks were approved in the first half of this year; this represents 32 per cent. of all tenders approved for public authorities during that period.

Multi-storey flats have constituted a rapidly growing element in the total Scottish housing programme in recent years. In 1958 the number of tenders approved was 3.4 per cent. of the total; in 1964 the equivalent figure was 27 per cent. Multi-storey building is, however, undertaken by relatively few public authorities.
