HC Deb 04 August 1965 vol 717 cc329-30W
62. Mr. Brewis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what saving in the transport costs of milk has been effected by the introduction of refrigerated bulk road tankers; and whether such saving is passed on by the Government to milk producers.

Mr. Ross

Bulk transport of milk to distributors often means a saving in costs of secondary haulage and handling allowances at depots. These costs were previously met in the first instance by the Exchequer and subsequently recovered from the consumer. The Government have an arrangement with the Milk Marketing Boards under which half of the savings effected by each scheme of bulk transport are paid to the Boards for five years.
