HC Deb 04 August 1965 vol 717 c321W
43. Mr. Wall

asked the Postmaster-General why it takes from 15 to 30 minutes to obtain a call to the Flaxman exchange operator on Sundays; and if he will see that adequate exchange staff are provided in London on Sundays.

Mr. Benn

Calls from Flaxman subscribers are handled by operators at Kensington exchange. Fewer staff than on weekdays are required to handle Sunday traffic, but as the flow of calls is often very irregular, the available staff is at times insufficient to answer all subscribers as quickly as we should like. The average time to answer on Sundays over the last three months has been under 20 seconds. Even this is not good enough and steps are in hand to see how the service can be improved.
