80. Mr. Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many out of the total number of cases committed for trial in each of the previous twelve months to each of the following courts, namely, the Central Criminal Court, the Manchester Crown Court, the Liverpool Crown Court and the London Sessions, have ended in pleas of guilty by the accused.

The information in the form desired is not readily available, but it was estimated from a previous research sample that in 1957 76 per cent. of those committed for trial at assizes and quarter sessions in England and Wales as a whole pleaded guilty.
