Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Minister of Transport what has been the year-by-year expenditure on roads in Great Britain since 1954 by central Government and local government on major improvements and new construction, and on minor improvement and maintenance, respectively; and what expenditure is proposed in the next five years, giving separately that for 1970–71.

Mr. Goodhew

Public expenditure on roads is at present under review. In the meantime I have nothing to add to my Answer to the hon. Member for Hillhead (Mr. T. G. D. Galbraith) on 23rd December.
