§ Sir M. Redmayneasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action he proposes to take in respect of the Burry Inlet Cockle Fishery Order 1965 as a result of the special attention drawn to this Order in the Second Report from the Select Committee on Statutory Instruments.
§ Mr. PeartThe Report of the Select Committee throws some doubt on the interpretation that has always been placed by successive administrations on certain admittedly obscure provisions of the Sea Fisheries Act 1868. With great respect to the Committee I am satisfied that this interpretation is not only necessary but tenable. I do not therefore propose to take any action about the Order. I will however consider the question of amending legislation for the removal of the doubt.
