HC Deb 02 August 1965 vol 717 cc223-4W
Mr. Ridsdale

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance, following the deferment of the proposal for an incomes guarantee for retirement pensioners, what plans she has for helping non-contributory pensioners.

Miss Herbison

Non-contributory old-age pensioners whose pensions, together with any other resources they may have, are insufficient for their requirements receive supplements under the National Assistance scheme, which is available to assist all old people whether or not they are receiving a non-contributory pension or a retirement pension. The National Assistance Board and I are taking all practicable steps to make the scheme better known to all such people who may be entitled to but have not yet applied for assistance.
