§ 52. Sir E. Bullusasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what representations he made, in view of the involvement of British troops in the fighting there, to the United States Government about their proposal to equip the Indonesian army with modern radio equipment; and what reply he received.
§ Mr. M. StewartAs I understand it the question under consideration by the American Government is whether to grant or withhold an export licence to an American commercial company which wishes to sell this equipment. The American Government is keeping us closely informed and we have made it clear to them that while Indonesia persists in its so-called policy of "confrontation" we should deplore the supply of anything which would improve the aggressive potential of the Indonesian Army. I have no doubt that full weight will be given to our views by the United States Government when the time comes for them to make their decision.
