HC Deb 02 August 1965 vol 717 c195W
6. Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps he is taking to bring about a negotiated settlement of the dispute between Indonesia and Malaysia in which British troops are involved.

Mr. M. Stewart

There is little I can add to the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister in the Foreign Affairs debate on 19th July. As has frequently been stated in this House, we ask for nothing better than a peaceful settlement of this quarrel which Indonesia has picked with her neighbour and our ally, Malaysia. But so long as Indonesia persists in her attempt to destroy Malaysia by force of arms, the conditions for a peaceful settlement simply do not exist.
