HC Deb 02 August 1965 vol 717 cc220-1W
65. Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what is the cost to local authorities of the Canadian timber houses erected by his Department; and what proposals he has to encourage the production of similar British-made houses.

Mr. C. Pannell

The Canadian Government erected at its own expense six demonstration houses in the United Kingdom. A New Town Corporation is now negotiating with the Canadian Government for the erection of 170 houses for which it will pay in the normal way.

Target costs will be set, based on the cost of providing comparable houses in traditional construction in the area concerned.
