HC Deb 02 August 1965 vol 717 cc231-2W
73. Sir P. Agnew

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he has now ascertained the reasonable cost of carrying out on the Arcam Company's Clerkenleap site, near Worcester, such work as is necessary in the public interest to restore the site to pastoral use; and what is the figure.

Mr. MacColl

My right hon. Friend has informed the Worcestershire County Council that he is prepared to reimburse the reasonable and necessary cost of carrying out works to restore the Arcam Company's Clerkenleap site to a pastoral use, in accordance with a specification submitted by them.

The actual sum which would be payable would depend on the submission of accounts including full details and costings of the work carried out.

74. Sir P. Agnew

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will make a statement on the progress made in the arrangements for restoring to pastoral use the Arcam Company's Clerkenleap site; whether the Company itself or the Worcestershire County Council will demolish the buildings; and when demolition will begin.

Mr. MacColl

An effective enforcement notice has been served on Arcam Limited and the method of implementing it is a matter for the county council. My right hon. Friend has no statutory function in the matter beyond deciding how much of the cost of restoration may properly attract Exchequer re-imbursement under the Requisitioned Land and War Works Act, 1945.
