HC Deb 28 April 1965 vol 711 c56W
50. Mr. John Wells

asked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement on the progress of the survey work now being carried out on the Channel Tunnel project.

Mr. Tom Fraser

The geophysical survey is virtually complete with high quality results. The marine borings have been hampered by wind and sea conditions during the winter and progress has been slow. The British and French Governments have, therefore, recently approved the use of newly available drilling platforms and other equipment to supplement the present drilling boats and make for better progress during the coming summer. It is hoped to finish the site work before the onset of next winter and so to have the survey completed by about the end of the year.
