There were on 7th April, 1,229 unfilled vacancies notified to the Gateshead Employment Exchange and associated Youth Employment Office and 15,484 to Employment Exchanges and Youth Employment Offices in the Northern Region.

asked the Minister of Labour how many boys and girls under 18 years of age were registered as unemployed at the Gateshead Youth Employment Office at mid-April in the years 1963, 1964 and 1965; what are the numbers of anticipated school-leavers at Easter 1965; and what are the prospects of employment being available for them.

Mr. Marsh

The number of boys and girls under 18 years of age registered as unemployed at the Gateshead Youth Employment Office at mid-April in the years 1963, 1964 and 1965 was 507, 192 employment; what was the percentage decrease or increase between each of the years 1962 to 1965; and what was the number of unfilled vacancies at the latest convenient date in Gateshead and in the Northern Region.

and 306 respectively. About 380 boys and girls are known to have left school this Easter. Most of them should find employment without undue difficulty.
