§ 44. Mr. Roseasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance whether she will examine the system of prescribed industrial diseases with a view to substituting benefit in all cases where a disease has, on the balance of probability, been caused by the nature of the victim's employment.
§ Miss HerbisonThis particular suggestion was carefully examined by an expert and authoritative Committee under the chairmanship of Mr. F. W. Beney, Q.C., as part of a comprehensive review of the diseases provisions of the Industrial Injuries Act, 1946. The Committee whose report was published in 1955—Command Paper N o. 9548—concluded that a change on the lines now suggested by my hon. Friend would not be a practicable proposition.
