HC Deb 14 April 1965 vol 710 c204W
57. Sir B. Janner

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that a fatal accident occurred to a passenger on a scooter in Leicestershire recently owing to the reflector posts on the road being covered in mud; and what steps he proposes to take to ensure that road signs are kept clean.

Mr. Tom Fraser

I was sorry to learn of this accident.

The responsibility for the maintenance of traffic signs rests with the appropriate highway authority, which in this case is the Leicestershire County Council. I understand its attention has been drawn to this matter. The Traffic Signs Manual being issued by my Department will emphasise the need for the regular cleaning of signs.
