§ 48. Mr. Brewisasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what assistance Her Majesty's Government will give to Chile as a result of the recent earthquake; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. George ThomsonHer Majesty's Government have decided to make a contribution of £5,000 to the Relief Fund which has been established by the Chilean Minister of Economy.
An advance will be obtained from the Civil Contingencies Fund, pending the voting of the appropriate estimate.
H.M.S. "Protector", which was in the area at the time, afforded certain assistance, the cost of which is not yet known.
Apart from assistance made available by Her Majesty's Government, OXFAM have contributed £5,000, and Save The Children £2,000 via Catholic Relief.
