§ Sir J. Rodgersasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what considerations led him to turn down the application to build 500 council houses in the Green Belt near Swanley which is of no amenity value, in view of the fact that 295W he allowed the development of 2,000 houses in the Green Belt at Hartley, Kent.
§ Mr. CrossmanSwanley is in the approve metropolitan green belt: Hartley is not and I have already stated my reasons for allowing that appeal. Local planning authorities are at present reviewing the approved metropolitan green belt to see whether any land which contributes little of value to the purposes of the belt can be released for housing. I consider that it would be premature to release any further substantial areas of land until the results of the review are known.
