Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what increase or decrease in staff there has been in the department under his control since 16th October, 1964; and what increase or decrease he anticipates in the period up to 15th October, 1965.

Mr. Greenwood

The number of staff in post in the Colonial Office on the 16th October, 1964, was 632 and there were 16 unfilled vacancies. The corresponding figures for the 1st April, 1965, are 595 and 23 respectively. No significant change in the number of posts is expected in the period from the 1st April, 1965, to the 15th October, 1965.
