§ Mr. PentlandIt is estimated that at 31st December, 1963, about 66 per cent. of retirement pensioners were being paid at the standard rate, 29 per cent. at a higher rate and 5 per cent. at a lower rate.

§ Miss HerbisonIt is estimated by the Board of Inland Revenue that there are about 1 million retirement pensioners with incomes over £500 a year. About half of these incomes provide for the needs of more than one pensioner.
