§ Mr. Bossomasked the Minister of Transport how the discussions with local authority associations are proceeding with regard to the improving of lighting of trunk roads, and the introduction of legislation to enable highway authorities 76W to provide street lighting on classified roads.
§ Mr. T. FraserI will put proposals to the local authority associations as soon as possible. County councils have power to provide lighting on classified roads, but the question whether any expenditure they incur on this should be eligible for Exchequer grant must be considered in the context of the review of the financial relationship between central and local government.
