Russellasked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement on the traffic aspects of the current proposals for an extension of the Palace of Westminster; and if he will consider the possibility of constructing an underpass in connection with the scheme so as to relieve the present congestion, caused by intersecting traffic, at the junction of Parliament Street and Bridge Street.
§ Vice-Admiral Hughes HallettThe traffic aspects of a realignment of Bridge Street will be one of the many factors taken into account in Sir Leslie Martin's study of the Whitehall area. So far as an underpass is concerned, I have considered the possibility of this with the L.C.C. There are serious practical difficulties. But no doubt this idea also will be re-examined as part of the wider study.
