§ Sir W. Robson Brownasked the Minister of Transport what area of surplus land owned by the British Railways Board has been sold in the last five years; and what is the total sum of money obtained from such sales to date.
§ Mr. GalbraithThe British Railways Board tell me that in the four years preceding the reorganisation of the nationalised transport undertakings, that is, in 1959–62, the British Transport Commission realised £4,932,579 from the sale of surplus railway estate property, including both developed and undeveloped land. The total amount realised in this way by the Board in 1963 was £2,001,977. The Commission did not, and the Board do not, aggregate in their records the site areas of property sold.
